It's Mothers Day Weekend, which got me to thinking that I am truly blessed to have the little guy in my life. Crazy how fast time goes because it seems like yesterday that we brought him home. And I was terrified, excited and crazy out of mind with sleep deprivation (a wicked time zone change and boy who immediately switched over will do that to you). Back then, I had no idea how to change a diaper, thought nasal aspirations were used for something else, and well, I admit it, had no real idea how to get clothes on a twisting boy. Boy, did he break us in quickly...New became routine and a novice became an expert.
When we first got him home, the little guy was all about his daddy. And I remember my dad saying, trust me, he will form a special bond with you. There's something special between a mother and son. And you know what he's right. We share something special for which I am grateful. There's been a lot of huge milestones. The first I love you; first kiss and hug; first wiped tear. But, I really love the everyday moments. The wickedly cute hearty laugh; the deep, peaceful snore; the wink just between the two of us; his renditions to favorite songs; little secrets we don't tell daddy. (What happens in this household when daddy's not home--stays in this household, and let me tell you it usually revolves around food). He's a challenger, no doubt. Inquisitive by nature....I lost count of the whys. It's fun to have talks with him. And he's my little pup, always near by.
I'm the lucky one. A mother to an amazingly, wonderful kid. A kid who is blessed with two others: a birth mom who chose life and heroically gave him an opportunity in life. A foster mom who was simply wonderful. So, I may still be learning on this path to motherhood. But I do know one thing: I could not love my baby boy any more.
And now, some funny kids quotes about their mothers:
When your mother is mad and asks you, "Do I look stupid?" it's best not to answer her.
If mom's not happy, nobody's happy.
My dad will never be color coordinated.
Every time I complain to my mom that I'm bored, she tells me to go clean my room.
When your mom is mad at your dad, don't let her brush your hair.
Parents should come with instructions.
You should not pick your nose because your mom will SCREAM!!!
You can't hide mashed potatoes in your hat.
"Casserole" is just another word for "leftovers."
You can't get away with everything but it's fun to try.
Dogs and mothers will love you no matter what.
