Happy Mother's Day

“A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.”

A Mother's Love Letter To Her Baby Boy

There are so many things that I want to say you. For years, we struggled with whether to have a kid. Let's be honest, Mama and Dada live a really blessed life. Why would we need a child to "mess up" our perfectly balanced life. There would be sleepless nights. Diapers to change. Tempers to flame out. And don't even get me started with the cost of raising a child. The easy solution would have been to say no and live our wonderful life.

There was, however, one problem. God had other different plans for us. We both felt drawn to adoption. As my very smart bother said to me, life is about leaving a legacy. And with adoption, you are cementing a pretty darn good legacy. So, we pressed on with your adoption, but still doubts remained. Would I be a good mother? What if you were some crazy lunatic kid? These doubts were all taken away when we received your first pictures. I just knew in my heart it would be all good.

And then we met you in Korea. You went between crying and checking out these strange new people. I still remember the rain as we carried you into the hotel, through the lobby and up to our room. We had no idea what to do for you. But we managed. We walked with you for hours in the room. Mama made funny faces each time we passed a mirror. There you were intently watching me with those big brown eyes.

I knew right then that I would never let go of this precious little boy. Thank you for blessing our life even further. I love you silly goose.
