Week in Rewind: Sept 25

For many weeks, the Eastern seaboard has been preparing for the arrival of the Pope.  This week, he finally arrived. And although I am not Catholic, I have watched with interest.

My fascination with the Pope began at the Vatican. Our tour guide relayed a simple, but powerful story. One day, while giving his tour there was a great commotion.  The Pope had entered from a side door, walked to a podium and loudly said Bonjorno, turned and quickly exited. The Swiss Guard's in hot pursuit. As our tour guide said in his Italian accented English, "A Different Type of Pope. A People's Pope"

We are watching history, yes. But as I sat watching the evening prayer service at St. Patrick's Cathedral, it struck me. This is a Pope that gets it.  He delivers the words of the Lord.  But he is a Pope that renews human spirituality by his actions.  The Golden Rule, of doing unto others as you have done to yourself....we've been teaching that to the little guy since the beginning.  As my good friend from work just texted me, he's amazing and transcends all religions.  This coming from a Catholic.

Yes, in deed, he is a People's Pope.
But his message is clear, if you walk through life with God, you are not alone
