Week in Rewind: Sept 25

For many weeks, the Eastern seaboard has been preparing for the arrival of the Pope.  This week, he finally arrived. And although I am not Catholic, I have watched with interest.

My fascination with the Pope began at the Vatican. Our tour guide relayed a simple, but powerful story. One day, while giving his tour there was a great commotion.  The Pope had entered from a side door, walked to a podium and loudly said Bonjorno, turned and quickly exited. The Swiss Guard's in hot pursuit. As our tour guide said in his Italian accented English, "A Different Type of Pope. A People's Pope"

We are watching history, yes. But as I sat watching the evening prayer service at St. Patrick's Cathedral, it struck me. This is a Pope that gets it.  He delivers the words of the Lord.  But he is a Pope that renews human spirituality by his actions.  The Golden Rule, of doing unto others as you have done to yourself....we've been teaching that to the little guy since the beginning.  As my good friend from work just texted me, he's amazing and transcends all religions.  This coming from a Catholic.

Yes, in deed, he is a People's Pope.
But his message is clear, if you walk through life with God, you are not alone

Week in Rewind: Sept 18

The king and his royal chair.

You know when they say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.  What an understatement!  The boy literally has taken after his daddy, who lets be honest, has taken potty time to another level.  At first, mommy was quiet unaware of the possiblites.  I mean it is rather a simply everyday routine.

But I could not have been more wrong. It seems men (and possibly some non adjusted women) need entertainment to cross the miracle mile.  And by entertainment I mean the complete assortment of up-to-date technology.  Say is that music I hear coming from the upstairs restroom, really!

And to make matters worse...the boy has started something rather upsetting. And I'm going to say it....gross!!!!

Noooooo

Week in Rewind: Sept 11

Today is Sept 11. As an American, we will never forget that day. It's a tough day to remember but the American resolve lives on.  Our spirit will never be broken.

And speaking of spirit, the little guy has it in bundles. Last weekend, we went to the zoo with his cousins and grandparents.  And let's just say, he truly loves all of them.  But more importantly, he has the perfect partner in crime.  Need I say more:

This week, we received some bad news for Trojan. We found out in April that she has a heart condition. And yesterday, we found out that it has slightly worsened. Mommy was pretty depressed. But I woke up this morning, determined to fight to the end and give her the best darn days of her life. So off to the cardiologist we go.

Week in Rewind: September 5

This was a big week in our household. On Tuesday, we went to school for orientation and met the little guy's teacher. She seems great. And all the parent reviews have been awesome.  Orientation went by fast...but the little guy seemed comfortable.

That night, we hunkered down and began to prepare for school the next day.  It brought back so many memories.  That nervous energy for the first day of school, check!  We (and by we, I mean mommy) had it in bunches.

As morning arrived, the little guy went about his business getting ready...no different from his normal day. There were tons of pictures. Breakfast. One last paw patrol.  And then it was time for the bus. As we stood there with the other kids and their families..you could feel the apprehension build. Mommies gave encouragement.  Several kids told him how much fun school is...but still there was the look.  As the bus pulled up, I dropped to my knees for one final kiss. And he quietly said, "I'm scared"....(your scared...mommy is on the verge of a break down!).  But I pulled myself together and confidently said we were all scared when we went to school but we went and had lots of fun. Be brave.  And with that, he boarded the bus. Sat in the first seat. And waved goodbye, big smile on his face.

We've never been so proud.

I was lucky to have parents who encouraged me to go into the world and experience it. I now know how hard that must have been on them..but I am eternally thankful.  As I waited for the bus to arrive home, several mommies told me the hard part is over (whew).    With the bus door opening, he charged off the bus and into my arms and screamed "mommy, I was brave". And I thought, more than you know.

If you love somebody...set them free.  Because if they truly love you, they always find a way home.
