Week in Rewind: March 30

Giddy Up!  Last weekend we found a new playground. And someone was super stoked.

The little guy's future elementary school totally put in two new playgrounds.  And the boy romped around both in your bliss, showing off his mad playground skills.

I feel the need for speed. That's right, Daddy finished 2nd overall in a Wilmington area 5k. How fast, you might ask...5.25 first mile.  Yeah, I'm going to go out on a limb and say the little guy will be doing speed work some day..especially now that he's over that Phoeb running style..you know the one with arms and legs wildly flapping.

Week in Rewind: March 21

It's official, the little guy had a great week.

He started on Saturday with a ride on his big boy bike. Let me set the picture. Our development sits across the street to an awesome park with a biking/running/walking lane...and on the weekends, the soccer fields are packed. As we strolled over as a family, we safely navigated the road.  But as luck would have it, there's a small hill onto the lane...and then a bigger hill onto the soccer field (with game in progress) and parents cheering on their kids.  As we approached, Daddy said make sure to go slow and brake. But let's be honest, those two things are not part of the boy's DNA.  So, as he went full steam ahead down the little hill onto the lane-and straight down the field onto the soccer field...well remarkable, in spite of picking up serious speed, the little guy kept the bike upright and intruded right into the game (which thankfully was on the other end of the field).  Mama, of course, couldn't quit laughing...because it was so darn funny...and trust me, it still gives me the giggles.  With that said, the boy has luck...no broken bones or running over, the hot chickado playing soccer.

Monday, he had a snow day. And sledding, more shoveling and snow angels..

This week also saw the little guy earn his first kid's belt.  So it turns out, that the boy with his butt initially sticking up in the air...has some skills. He counted to 10 in Korean. Named Korean body parts...and well, kicked, punched and "yeee awwwd" his way to the yellow belt. Afterward we celebrated at Old MacDonalds. That's when he asked are you proud of me...always buddy, always...but especially when your butt isn't sticking up in the air, holler!

Happy Birthday to the amazingly awesome Uncle Dick

As I get older, I often like to look at the character traits of good souls.  I pray that the little guy will take the best of these traits and become a better person.

For my Uncle Larry, it's taking a lemon (polio at a young age) and making lemonade.

For my parents, it's giving freedom to their children to make life choices and supporting with love

For favorite Aunts and Uncles, it's the joy of community involvement & the happiness brought by family and good meals.

For Mike's parents, it's the love of church and family, always quick with a smile

For Great Grandmom, it's showing us the right way to lead a family.

For siblings, it's the fun in growing older and the bonds that tie

But, there is one trait that I admire above all others: unconditional love

And when I think of that trait, I think of my Uncle Dick

The Grasshopper continues to learn

Last night we did karate. Z did awesome.  He's really getting the hang of it and more importantly loving it.  The boy beat down the Master's stick and confidently smacked talked with his friends that he was the fastest. That's my boy, a mean lean karate machine...

Week in Rewind: Mar 14

Stop the presses: next week, the little guy is student of the week at his daycare  Someone could not have been more proud. And by someone, I mean the little guy. He smiled as he explained his favorite colors, food, toys.  Something tells me that someone likes the limelight....

Last weekend, we celebrated three awesome birthdays. It started with a round of bowling and quickly progressed to cake and ice cream. And the little guy loved every minute of it. Happy Birthday Great Grandmom, Pop Pop and Daddy

Lately, the weather can't seem to make up its mind.  A beautiful 70 degree day was quickly followed by nasty cold winds and 20 degree weather.  Darn you Old Man Winter.  But someone doesn't seem to mind.  Mama, little boys love wind, snow and cold weather.  Me: really, you can't ride your bike out in the cold.  Little guy: oh.   Yes, my little boy, let that one sink in.

Soccer starts in 2 weeks. So Mama bought the little guy a net to practice. But in only a way that a 3 year old can school you...the little guy pointed out that it is a really tiny net.  Mama's response: that way the bigger net will look enormous.  Which resulted in a perplexed look by the little guy...why you might ask....because as he so smartly told me:  they are big nets Mama.

Week in Rewind: March 6

It was one of those wash, rinse, repeat weeks.  In other words, not much news on the radar.

Let's see. The little guy did great again in karate. The best part, there is one kid who always seems  to be put in timeout (a class troublemaker, if you will).   This week saw the little guy kick a big blue ball straight into that kid's face. As the master said, see, you weren't paying attention, Mama could hardly contain herself. The little guy blasted that ball...and well, it was quiet funny.  Mama, pull yourself together

Our little fish returned to the pool. We went bright and early to swim. And the little guy did not disappoint, motoring around the facilities. Still working toward no floaters...but looking marvelous as ever

Mama found a special gift from the little guy. He put one if his cars in my pocket, and that made my day.

We had a mini meltdown at Old MacDonalds. Daddy made the mistake of buying 10 nuggets and fries, on the premise of lunch the next day. As we talked, I suddenly noticed that the boy had eaten the fries (with help) and 6 of the nuggets. In other words, a lot of food for a boy that size. When we tried to take the nuggets away, someone was not happy. Which gets me back to karate. When we were getting the little guy changed after class.  I suddenly noticed a tiny red shoe next to his pontoon size shoes.  Which got me to thinking:  the boy has incredibly sized shoes for that age.  And 6 nuggets at Old MacDonalds isn't going to cut it eventually...
